Traditional bakery in the old fashion way: Wheat and corn bread, Massa Sovada (sweet home bread) and biscuits, in firewood ovens, heated with firewood (wood) from the Nordeste’s bush.
The Arruda bakery works its efforts into recovering the knowledge of the ancestors, placing today food that was formerly present in any house: bread, wheat and corn, to which it was occasionally added, during the festivities occasions, the Massa Sovada (sweet bread) and cookies.
The bread is the only one on the island of São Miguel totally made in the traditional way. The appearance, taste and aroma are unmistakable.

The Sol Nascente Association produces traditional sweets and adds some innovation. From the parish of Salga, a small group of skillful and laborious ladies dedicates in producing delicious cookies of beer, cream, cinnamon and sugar, as well as Avó's (grandmother’s) cookies. Massa Sovada (sweet home bread), oven cake, Massa Sovada biscuit, a variety of cheeses, grape and fig jams are other specialties from Sol Nascente Association.
